Bigodi Swamp

Boardwalks. Bigodi Swamp is a bird-watching must do and even if you are not a bird watcher, it’s a recommended trip to support the conservation of the swamp and a nice walk through a unique landscape. It’s an easy morning excursion and it seems like there is a burgeoning industry of guides that can take you on the walk. Our hotel arranged for someone to meet us at the main gate at 745am and we had a very productive bird walk finishing up at around 11am. The walk criss-crossed through community agriculture land, boardwalks across flooded swamps, and forest edge. It was a nice sampling of the habitat and it was a good demonstration of community conservation. Although the swamp was surrounded by village land and development, the habitat was well conserved with an astonishing variety of birds that were easy to view. As most people will come to the area for chimp trekking, I would say that this walk could pose as an excellent warm up!
